Metropolitan Planning Organization of Miami-Dade
County has contracted with the CUCD to prepare an analysis and report of
an alternative design for the I-395 elevated highway, which is slated to
be rebuilt.
The current layout has caused blight and
disinvestment in downtown Miami. The alternative under study was
conceived by Miami Urban Watch and favors the replacement of the elevated
highway with a surface boulevard. The CUCD hired the Transportation
Engineering Firm of Glatting Jackson to advise the team of architecture
students and Miami Urban Watch and to assist in the preparation of
documents and drawings to illustrate the viability and benefits of this
Alternative to the City of Miami and its neighborhoods.
The work that went into this study has come to the
attention and favor of the City Board of Commissioners and Mayor. A Blue
Ribbon panel of City-County and Transportation Planners has been
established to determine the plans viability.
