Spring 2008

January 7 through 11 – University of Miami “Engineering for the Americas” Conference.  Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center Glasgow Hall.  For registered students only.

January-May – Palm Beach Historic Preservation Studio conducted by faculty members Joanna Lombard, Catherine Lynn, and Veruska Vasconez with the cooperation of the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach. For registered students only.

January 14-February 22The Three Romes, an exhibition of student and faculty work, 1991-2007.  New gallery in Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

January 16-18 – School of Architecture Knight Program in Community Building National Charrette Institute (NCI) Charrette Planner Certificate Course, Celebration, Florida.  For more information, visit www.arc.miami.edu.

January 23 – Lecture co-sponsored with U.S. Green Building Council South Florida Chapter.  Tyler J. Krutzfeldt, Managing Director, Mont Vista Capital on “Carbon Cap and Trade – Will Cap Present an Opportunity for Green Developers.” Jorge M. January 25 and 26 -- Bass Museum of Art /University of Miami School of Architecture Preservation Conference "Preserving the Modern: Buildings and Landscape Preservation -- A Contemporary Agenda."  January 25 -- Reception and keynote address at the Bass Museum of Art,  2121 Park Avenue, Miami Beach, 6:00 p.m. (for reservations call 305-673-7530, ext. 1015).  January 26 -- All day conference at the University of Miami School of Architecture from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Jorge M. January 26 – South Miami Middle School Photography Exhibition.  School of Architecture Building 48E.  Time TBA.

February-March – Exhibition of student work from the School of Architecture Waterfront Study. Dates and venue to be announced.

February 7 – School of Architecture and the School of Arts and Sciences Urban Studies Program present a lecture by Saskia Sassen, Professor, Department of Sociology, Columbia University on “Reassembling the City.”  Jorge M. February 13 – Lecture and book signing by Gwendolyn Wright, architectural historian, Columbia University on her book USA: Modern Architectures in History.  Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center Glasgow Hall, 6:00 p.m. refreshments, 6:30 p.m. lecture.

February 14 – School of Arts and Sciences Urban Studies Program presents a lecture by Sako Musterd, Professor of Geography, University of Amsterdam. Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center Glasgow Hall, 6:00 p.m. refreshments, 6:30 p.m. lecture.

February 21 The University of Miami Citizens’ Board Architecture Lecture generously sponsored by the Citizens Board Select Projects FundAmanda Burden, Chairman of the New York City Planning Commission and Director of the New York Department of City Planning.  Jorge M. February 28 – Miller School of Medicine lecture by Lawrence Frank, Ph.D. Professor in Sustainable Urban Transportation,  School of Community and Regional Planning at the University of British Columbia, co-sponsored with the School of Architecture. Miller School of Medicine Broad Bussel Auditorium, Clinical Research Building, 1120 N.W. 14th Street, 3:30 p.m.

February 29-March 2American Institute of Architecture Students University of Miami Chapter host the annual South Quad Conference “Trends and Traditions.”  Various activities and tours for students from schools in the southeastern United States.  Sponsorships available.  Contact University of Miami AIAS president Danay Morales at yanad0886@msn.com.

March 17-April 18Exhibition.  Title to be announced.  Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center Gallery, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

March 27-29 – University of Notre Dame presents the Driehaus Prize in Classical Architecture to Dean Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk and Andres Duany in Chicago.

April 1 – School of Architecture Career Fair, Hurricane 100 Room, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Firms interested in participating contact Julia Pizarro 305-284-3731. For graduating students.

April 9 – Lecture by Rahul Mehrotra, Architect and Urban Planner, Rahul Mehrotra & Associates, Mumbai, India.  Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center Glasgow Hall, 6:00 p.m. refreshments, 6:30 p.m.lecture.

May 8 – School of Architecture Awards Day, Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center Glasgow Hall, 9:00 a.m.

May 9Spring Commencement at Bank United Center at 12:30 p.m. followed by student/family reception and exhibition of graduating students’ work, School of Architecture Courtyard and Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center Gallery.

All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. They are subject to change. Free parking is available in the Pavia Garage on Pavia Street one block from the University’s main entrance on Stanford Drive.   Events are endorsed by the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

October 13 – Symposium presented by the U.S. Green Building Council, Miami Chapter.  “The Ecology of Concrete: Environmental Best Practices for Design and Construction with Concrete.”  Jorge M.
