Miami, Florida

AFFILIATION: CEWConsulting

AREA OF EXPERTISE: Community and Economic Revitalization, Affordable Housing, Faith-based Collaboratives, Organizational and Strategic Planning, Fund Development, Meeting Facilitation, and Citizen Participation

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE: Appointed as a Community Builder with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development under the Clinton Administration, C.C. was the chief architect of the Tri-City Faithbased Collaborative for Niagara Falls, Buffalo, and Rochester, NY, a group of over 200 churches and 70 organizations in the distressed communities of Western New York State. Under C.C.'s leadership this organization won two HUD Best Practices awards in its first year of operation.

C.C. moved to South Florida to join the Growth Partnership at the Collins Center for Public Policy, where she helped develop revitalization plans for West Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. As an extension of her Knight Program Fellowship, she was hired by the University of Miami to facilitate the formation of the Coconut Grove Collaborative. She has continued to work with the West Coconut Grove community as a consultant for the City of Miami.

In addition to her work in community building, C.C. has a background in law and education. She has served as executive director of several non-profit organizations and been elected to public office. She frequently lectures and conducts training workshops.

RESEARCH INTERESTS: C.C. has focused on the development of a replicable national model for empowering low-income people, minorities, faith-based groups, and other disenfranchised persons in community development at the grassroots organizational level. She is developing a guide of resources that help prevent displacement in gentrifying communities.
