BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE: With 12 years of professional experience in
public and private sectors, Steve has become a leader in urban and public
space design. His expertise includes urban planning and design; national,
regional, and local parks; greenway and trail systems. Steve is committed to
projects that are environmentally sound but also embody the principles of
Smart Growth and Livable Communities. He has assisted several design teams
on projects such as New Longview and the development of six prototypical
Transit Supportive Development plans for the Kansas City metropolitan area.
In 2003 he was selected as the Landscape Architecture Alumni Honoree from
Kansas State University. In addition to his design work, Steve has taught
and lectured at several local universities. He serves as a board member of
the Kansas City Design Center and is assisting the Mid-America Regional
Council in the implementation of a two-state, seven-county greenway system
called MetroGreen.
RESEARCH INTEREST:
Whether it is a small town, a neighborhood or a metropolis, many of our
most desired places have an identifiable center. Steve’s research analyzes
the qualities that make a good center by exploring various features that
form these centers and why people living there recognize these locations as
the center.
