This intensive, two-day seminar focuses on the challenges and opportunities of urban redevelopment and preservation. The seminar brings together experienced developers and experts who share knowledge and techniques for identifying competitive opportunities and orchestrating successful real estate development projects that help preserve and revitalize downtowns, main streets, and historic properties.

The course reviews fundamentals of real estate development, the development process, industry specific terminology, and incentives for development. Participants learn from real-world examples, including an in-depth case study on downtown historic real estate; walk through the steps necessary to finance a project; and leave with a basic knowledge of the workings of real estate development.

Particular attention is paid to traditional downtowns, main streets, and historic districts, which are experiencing a renaissance nationwide. People want dynamic, pedestrian-friendly main street environments in which to shop, work, live, and socialize. As this trend grows, real estate developers, public officials, professionals from municipal and nonprofit agencies, property owners, and others are seeking the knowledge, tools and resources necessary to revitalize downtowns, main streets, and historic neighborhoods and breathe new life into old buildings. Participants learn about the redevelopment of downtown historic real estate through an in-depth, real-world case study.
