Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU IX), June 6-10, 2001 (New York, New
York)
The third
Knight Program seminar of 2002 was the annual Congress for the New
Urbanism (CNU), held in New York City. In addition to attending conference
presentations, the Fellows attended a private reception at Roberta Gratz’s
residence (author of The Living City and other books and articles
on urban revitalization), the special Education Task Force luncheon, field
trips to neighborhoods and communities in the New York metropolitan
region, and the open air “salons” (informal topical discussions) held in
Bryant Park. Fellows also attended the Charter Awards ceremony where
twelve projects and planning initiatives were awarded special recognition
as exemplifying the principles embodied in the Charter of the Congress for
the New Urbanism. The Knight Program also sponsored the attendance of two
of the Knight Scholars, who assisted with the taping of private sessions
and interviews with the Fellows.
