NATIONAL CHARRETTE INSTITUTE CHARRETTE PLANNER® CERTIFICATE
OFFERED BY THE KNIGHT PROGRAM IN COMMUNITY BUILDING
FEBRUARY 14-16, 2007 AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI

NOVEMBER 3, 2006 -- How can the public process be organized to create win-win outcomes for communities and developers? What role can charrettes (public design workshops) play in community planning and real estate development? What are the most effective ways to conduct a charrette? This intensive, two-part certification addresses these questions and more, exploring the nexus between public participation and the design of livable communities.

The course offers a complete overview of the NCI Dynamic Planning process, which provides holistic solutions to design and public involvement obstacles encountered in most conventional planning processes.  Participants should include anyone who wants to learn about this powerful collaborative planning process, including elected officials, planning staff, developers, and concerned citizens.

This course is offered by the Knight Program in Community Building
in conjunction with the National Charrette Institute (NCI). It is organized as two modules: an introductory half-day course with open enrollment followed by an intensive 2.5-day course limited to 35 participants, leading to certification by the NCI as a charrette planner.

Continuing education credits are available through AIA and AICP for this course.

PART I, FEB 14, 9am-12pm
Introduction to Dynamic Planning: The Charrette in Context
(Module One of the NCI Charrette Planner Certificate Program)

This half-day seminar provides a complete overview of the NCI Dynamic Planning process.

PART II, FEB 14-16 (FEB 14 1-4:30pm; FEB 15 9am-4:30pm; FEB 16 9am-4:30pm)
Continuing Dynamic Planning: Professional Tools & Techniques
2.5-day workshop
(Module Two of the NCI Charrette Planner Certificate Program)

This newly expanded and updated 2.5-day intensive training teaches the fundamentals of designing and running a successful charrette and helps participants develop a practical understanding of the power of Dynamic Planning. It is an advanced course for serious planning practitioners, and must be preceded by Part I.
