A charrette
that began earlier this week in the City of Coatesville continues
today, tomorrow and concludes this Monday.
A group of
University of Miami School of Architecture faculty, students and
fellows associated with the university's Knight Program in Community
Building are conducting the charrette, which, according to Michael
Givler, Main Street Manager for the City of Coatesville, a charrette
is an intensive, public exercise in community building.
The fellows are an interdisciplinary team of 13 community
development professionals from around the country who have expertise
in the areas of historic preservation, engineering, public affairs,
land use, conservation, real estate development, architecture, town
planning, community planning, transportation, urban planning,
economics and other related fields.
The meetings began this past Wednesday and continue today, tomorrow,
Saturday and conclude on Monday.
The first meeting was held at Gordon Elementary School, and the last
meeting also will be held there from Monday, Oct. 27 from 6 p.m. to
8 p.m.
The schedule of the other meetings today, tomorrow and Saturday are
is as follows, with the topics to be discussed at each time:
Thursday, Oct. 23
8:30 a.m.-10 a.m.: transportation, street design and transit
10 a.m. -11:30 a.m.: historic preservation and heritage tourism
1 p.m.-2:30 p.m.: shatter zone (steel mill site redevelopment)
3 p.m.-4:30 p.m.: downtown business
7 p.m.-8:30 pm..: river walk, parks, trails and community facilities
Friday, Oct. 24
8:30 a.m.-10 a.m.: developer, landowners and financial institutions
10 a.m.-11:30 a.m.: land use policies, codes and public works
1 p.m.-2:30 p.m.: schools and safety (police, fire, emergency
services)
3 p.m.-4:30 p.m.: churches, cultural groups and non-profits
Saturday, Oct. 25
10 a.m.-11:30 a.m.: housing and rent
4 p.m.-6:30 p.m. community recap pin-up and review
All meetings with no location listed will most likely be held at
City Hall, but please call ahead for confirmation of location.
