EVERGREEN-EASTRIDGE DESIGN WORKSHOP
PLANNED
Edition: Morning Final Section: Local Page: 3B
Memo: Valley Roundup
Source: From Mercury News staff reports
For the first time, the Evergreen-Eastridge neighborhood of San Jose will
undergo a five-day
intensive public exercise in community design, also known as a charrette.
It is conducted by
the Knight Program in Community Building and funded by the John S. and
James L. Knight
Foundation, which promotes excellence in journalism and invests in
programs in 26 U.S.
communities. Local sponsors include the city of San Jose and the San Jose
Redevelopment
Agency. The event will be held at Eastridge Shopping Center from Nov. 13
to 18.
A charrette is a communitywide design process in which members of the public
are invited
to meet with designers and planners in workshop sessions to share
opinions and ideas about
the development of their community. San Jose was selected through a
competitive process for
the second annual Knight charrette. The study will cover two Strong
Neighborhood Initiative
areas: West Evergreen and the King and Ocala area.
