Ft. Lauderdale official gets Knight Fellowship

Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Gloria Katz has been selected as one of 12 Knight Fellows in Community Building by the University of Miami School of Architecture.

Next year, the Knight Fellows will take part in a mid-career educational program that will bring together community leaders, policymakers, architects, urban planners, environmentalists, journalists and transportation experts from across the nation for seminars and workshops on the techniques of building and rebuilding of communities.

Katz will explore the urban design elements of community building that are reshaping communities like Charleston, S.C., and St. Paul, Minn.

The University of Miami School of Architecture's curriculum incorporates regional issues of environment and transportation, community issues of social integration, and street and building design that make neighborhoods pedestrian-friendly and safe.
