The School sponsors conferences and symposia. These are held in Glasgow Hall (on campus), and at venues around the city (Miami).

March 2, 2017 - Post-Election: Healthcare Design Colloquium

Changing demographics, advancements in technology, and the 2017 American political administration are influencing factors that will transform Healthcare Facility Design. This colloquium showcases thought leaders from distinguished firms that will share their views on post-election healthcare trends and the unprecedented boom in South Florida healthcare construction.

The keynote speaker is Sarah Bader, Managing Director & Principal at Gensler, Chicago. Ms. Bader will present a post-election forecast including meta-trends shaping the world of 2025. Robert Bostwick, President & Director of Design at Bostwick Design Partnership, will share the latest trends in project delivery systems. Our closing speaker, Mari Lopez, Director of Facilities, Design, & Construction at Jackson Health Systems, will present the evolution of Jackson Memorial Campus, one of the largest Healthcare Design and Construction endeavors in South Florida. The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion focusing on emerging areas of opportunity influenced by these new trends.

The colloquium will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the Donna Shalala Student Center, Grand Ballroom East.

March 2, 2017 - Plan Z for Miami: Cycology, Bike Planning for Health and Wellness Panel Discussion

The concept for PLAN Z FOR MIAMI was generated in response to the continuing deaths of cyclists on the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami-Dade County. PLAN Z's goal is to help minimize cycling risks while providing uninhibited access to clean air and exercise in a safe, scenic environment and also take into account a needed bridge replacement and address the potential impact of sea-level rise. February 24, 2017 - FitCity 4 Conference: Designing and Building for Health

FitCity is about the relationship between design and health. The FitCity Miami 4 Conference explores the opportunities for physical activity that the built environment presents in our communities. This event will be held on February 24, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Miami-Dade College, Wolfson Campus, 300 NE2nd Avenue, Building 2, Floor 1, Room 2106 in Downtown Miami. February 23, 2017 – SMART CITIES MIAMI

University of Miami’s School of Architecture and the Center for Computational Science bring cutting-edge research in urban planning, architecture, and engineering-in alignment with computational resources and analytical expertise-to aid in the design and development of more sustainable, livable, and resilient cities. SMART CITIES MIAMI gathers leaders in academia, professional practice, and industry to examine the Smart Cities phenomenon in relation to emerging trends and technology. The focus is on infrastructure and the built environment, as well as new potentials for business and governance.

Join us for panel discussions and networking opportunities, February 23 from 1 to 5 PM (A networking reception follows the event beginning at 5:00 p.m.) and February 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Download program.

February 10, 2017 – Real Estate Impact Conference

The UM School of Architecture and School of Business Administration brought together the nation’s most prominent real estate experts to share perspectives and insights for adapting to rapidly changing industry trends.The MRED+U program, Advisory Board, Board of Trustees, sponsors, and iconic speakers, collaborated with the two UM schools, to make the annual conference a continued success. More than 550 attended the conference, highlighting local and national trends in a dynamically evolving industry. It was headlined by Lennar Corp. CEO Stuart Miller and David Simon, CEO of mall owner Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG).
